Built in 1202 as the first Zen temple in Kyoto, Kennin-ji could perhaps be considered the birthplace of Zen in Kyoto. Kennin-ji features numerous precious cultural assets, including old buildings, paintings and gardens which have rare historical value and artistic beauty.
